Mitch Sebastian

was nominated for an OLIVIER AWARD and WHAT’S ONSTAGE AWARD for creating the West End hit show, RATPACK LIVE FROM LAS VEGAS. He went on to direct the film for American television and twelve years later productions continue to play worldwide.

He was the director and choreographer of London’s OLIVIER AWARDS CEREMONY in 2003 and part of the BAFTA AWARD winning creative team behind the children’s animation series, YOKO JAKAMOTO TOTO.

During his early career as a performed he appeared in 12 Broadway/ West End musicals including: FOLLIES, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, CABARET, STARLIGHT EXPRESS, CATS, LES MISERABLES & THE WHO’S TOMMY.

Noted for conceiving and staging concert tours for major Pop Artists in stadiums around the world; he is also responsible for the arena productions of CHICAGO, FAME and EVITA.

Over the past 20years Mitch has choreographed 8 WEST END shows and directed over 30 musicals internationally.

In the USA he collaborated with PAULA ABDUL to create a new entertainment, CHEER! for Broadway and with HIROAKI OMOTE in Japan to generate SAVIOUR IV the multi media series.

In London Mitch worked with multiple OSCAR winning composer, STEPHEN SCHWARTZ on a radical re-staging of his musical, PIPPIN. Placing the action in the World of Video games. A new alternative ending was crafted by Sebastian that was later included in the 2013 Broadway revival.

The following year he premiered his latest original work, EVOLUTION in Shenzhen, China combining circus performance, state-of-the-art video technology with House music to create a theatrical an immersive Clubbing experience.

In 2018 he was nominated for a BROADWAY WORLD AWARD for his work choreographing MAMMA MIA in the USA where he recently directed and choreographed MATILDA in Chicago.

Sebastian can be seen in the soon to be released feature length documentary, UPROOTED charting the history and roots of jazz dance.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

My American Jazz class will focus on the fluid low style established by JACK COLE often referred to as the father of Jazz.

His style Is exemplified in the classic MGM Movie musicals of the 50’s featuring FED ASTAIRE, GENE KELLY & CYD CHARISSE Glamorous spectaculars such as SINGING IN THE RAIN, SILK STOCKINGS, FUNNY LADY and KISS ME KATE
